![]() ![]() Campers and staff alike were concerned…until a clown troop showed up to put out the fire. A fire appeared to break out as the Upper Seniors attempted to convince the entire camp that Olympics had broken. But soon after lineup started, it became obvious that this wasn’t just any carnival day. That alone was enough for the camp to begin buzzing. It’s a time to bring everything you’ve got to a game, but to remember that when all is said and done, everyone, including the members of the other team, are your fellow campers, colleagues, and friends. In other words, the 2013 Camp Starlight Olympics was an excellent exhibition, on behalf of the campers and Officers, of what Olympics is all about. The apache relay was neck and neck throughout and a single point determined the Sing winner. The Senior Rope Burn was one of the best Camp Starlight has seen in years. The teams played hard from the beginning to the end of the competition yet never forgot to have fun while demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship. In the end, if there is one word to describe these Olympics, it would be “intense.” Both teams came to every event hungry for a win and it showed in the scores, which were so close throughout the competition that victory came down to the final day of competition for girls and, quite literally, to the final tug-of-war for the boys. Closing ceremonies, Planet Blue Boys won, White Controllers Girls won, track meet-Olympic victory came down to the final tug of war for boys camp, Sing-one point gave Planet Blue the victory, the Apache-White Controllers claimed the win for the girls while it was a draw for the boys, Senior Rope Burn, hockey, soccer, gaga, swim meets, gymnastics meet, dance competition, lacrosse, trangle ball, newcombe, volleyball, boating, basketball, synchronized swimming, baseball, softball, cooking, eco-science, water polo, soccer shots, flag football, tennis, newcomb, Trivia Bowl-a boys camp tie decided by a gig, opening ceremonies, clown break. So here is an Olympic rewind everything that happened in reverse. I opted for sponges instead of balloons and they worked great. The Camp Starlight Olympics is over, but so much happens in just a few short days that it’s hard to keep up with it all in real time. We would have to pick up the balloon pieces afterwards. Water balloons often just bounce off people and explode on the ground anyway.Ĭ. ![]() Filling balloons with paint sounds like too much messy work.ī. Note: I didn't use water balloons because. ![]() The idea was to create a sort of paint slip'n'slide, but by the time we were done with Paint Twister, we weren't in the mood to slide around. We also laid out a tarp to catch the paint. Plus, cleaning the Twister mat was a huge pain.) Spraying each other with the pump guns was the most fun. That way, I only had one to wash after the fun was over And we didn't use a Twister mat this year. (***UPDATE*** AugThis time around, I asked guests to bring their own buckets. (Paint Twister!) Dump paint straight from the bottle onto the mat so it doesn't run everywhere. They are easy to refill and perfect for repeat paint fights in case you want to make it a tradition. Plastic or foam pump guns (the watered down paint won't ruin them). When the paint dried on our skin it was very uncomfortable and it took a long time to wash it off. We didn't think to do this until after our fight, but we will definitely do it next time. This will make it easier for clean up too. ![]() BUT! You can make the paint go a lot farther if you do 1 part paint to 3 or even 4 parts water. We only used about half a gallon of each color and mixed in equal parts water in large buckets. Plus, you won't have to just throw away that bottle of white. The colors won't be as bright, but you can stretch the paint out a bit. Here's a tip: Try mixing a little white paint into each bucket. We had way more than enough paint (about 6 gallons for 8 people)! If you plan to have a big crowd or if you want to make this an annual tradition, go with the big paint set or this one for an even larger group. Or you could buy this smaller paint set for a one time fight with a small group. I bought several gallons of it in a set to save money. You know, the stuff for kids to use in school. ![]()

![]() ![]() TrustsĪ trust is a legal contract that allows another person (the “trustee”) to hold property for you (the “grantor”). ![]() Online will services offer interactive questionnaires to help you create a legally binding will specific to your state. If you already know where you want your assets to go, it’s easy to make a will without a lawyer. Going through probate court without a will is more time consuming and expensive, with the money coming out of your estate first. ![]() Your estate will go through the probate process whether you die with or without a will, but having a will ensures your executor honors your wishes. Probate refers to the process of distributing your estate after you’ve died. WillsĪ will, formally called a “ last will and testament,” is a legal document stating how you want your executor (the person legally obligated to administer your estate) to distribute your assets when you die.ĭying without a will is known as dying “intestate,” which means state law will dictate what happens with your estate. Some people even include a letter of instruction with their estate to walk their family members through the documents. Most of this process consists of creating and finalizing estate planning documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and living wills. At the very least, everyone should have a simple estate plan in place. The biggest benefit of estate planning is peace of mind-you’ll know your wishes will be fulfilled for the benefit of your loved ones. This type of planning helps determine who can make decisions on your behalf, who takes care of your dependents, and how to avoid unnecessary taxes and waiting periods.Įstate planning covers any decisions regarding money, property, medical care, dependent care, and other matters that can arise when a person dies. Organizing your affairs in preparation for the end of your life is an important task, and estate planning is an ongoing process that includes much more than writing a will.

The billing data for portable pelvic X-rays were assessed. A random sample of 50 pelvic X-rays was independently reviewed by a second fellowship-trained arthroplasty surgeon. Suboptimal radiographic quality was confirmed based on one or more of the following: (1) malpositioned pelvic X-rays (2) X-rays of incomplete pelvic, bilateral proximal femurs, and implants (3) excessive abduction precluding an accurate assessment of leg length (4) pelvic inlet, outlet, or Judet views due to significant malrotation and (4) the presence of foreign body obscuring relevant anatomical structures. The complications were classified into "known" and "unknown" according to the intraoperative fluoroscopic results recorded in the operative notes. We did not assess leg length, offset, component size, or implant position because the technical parameters were beyond the scope of this study. Complications were defined as hip fractures, dislocations, and fixation failure. Radiographic assessmentĪ fellowship-trained arthroplasty surgeon reviewed all PACU X-rays taken immediately after surgery. The attending surgeons selected the implants. One surgeon used both the direct anterior and posterolateral approaches, and four surgeons used the posterolateral approach. The exclusion criteria included simultaneous bilateral THAs, conversion THAs, THAs due to fractures, revision THAs, and a follow-up period of less than 3 months.Īll operations were performed by 5 high-volume arthroplasty surgeons. The inclusion criteria for the study were (1) patients undergoing THAs through the posterolateral or direct anterior approach and (2) patients taking a standard anteroposterior pelvic X-ray using a portable radiograph machine in the PACU immediately after surgery. The database was queried to identify all patients undergoing THA between Januand December 31, 2018. We retrospectively reviewed the data collected prospectively from our institutional arthroplasty database. We also assessed the quality and cost of the X-rays associated with this protocol. This study aimed to investigate THA complications based on the immediate postoperative X-rays taken in the PACU. argued that immediate postoperative X-rays were not cost-effective because they neither provide additional clinically relevant information nor benefit patient care. They found that 13% of anteroposterior X-rays and 6% of lateral X-rays were inadequate. advocated the use of criteria to determine whether X-rays were adequate. suggested that X-rays were not significantly superior to clinical assessments in diagnosing acute hip dislocations and that no dislocation occurred in clinical practice. Some surgeons often take immediate postoperative X-rays using a portable machine. Immediate postoperative X-rays are often performed in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) to screen for complications and assess implant placement, but their effectiveness and cost-effectiveness remain controversial. Periprosthetic fractures and dislocations following total hip arthroplasty (THA) are rare catastrophic complications. The X-rays are often of suboptimal quality, have minimal clinical utility, and are less cost-effective. In total hip arthroplasty, X-rays taken immediately after surgery rarely reveal unknown complications. The cost of a single portable pelvic X-ray was $647. Of the 518 X-rays, 225 (43%) were of suboptimal quality. There was no significant difference between intraoperative fluoroscopy and X-rays ( P > 0.05). Compared to the X-rays taken immediately after surgery, 9 periprosthetic fractures (recorded as "known") were found and 1 was not (recorded as "unknown"). Based on intraoperative fluoroscopy, periprosthetic fractures were found in 10 (2%) THAs. ResultsĪ total of 518 total hip arthroplasties were included in this study. Visible light narrowly ranges from approximately 700 nm for red light to 400 nm for violet light in the broad spectrum. Is light intensity the same as wavelength? In the Young’s double – slit experiment, the intensity of light at a point on the screen where the path difference is λ is K,(λ being the wave length of light used). For each distance of the plant from the lamp, light intensity will be proportional to the inverse of, meaning distance squared. The light intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance – this is the inverse square law. How do you find the intensity of light at a distance? This answer tells you that the light intensity at your point on the sphere is equal to the number of watts that the bulb radiates divided by the surface area of the sphere. This final answer is given in watts per meters squared. How do you calculate the light intensity of a light bulb?ĭivide the bulb’s wattage by the answer from the previous step. When Swift interrupts Out of the Woods to mention "Twenty stitches in a hospital room/Remember when you hit the brakes too soon," that's about as un-Brill as Bruce talking about Crazy Janey and Greaser Lake. have faith that, whatever is lost in relatability by including something specifically autobiographical is a gain for fans who know that that weird minutiae confirms the rest of the emotions as authentic.
