![]() ![]() Campers and staff alike were concerned…until a clown troop showed up to put out the fire. A fire appeared to break out as the Upper Seniors attempted to convince the entire camp that Olympics had broken. But soon after lineup started, it became obvious that this wasn’t just any carnival day. That alone was enough for the camp to begin buzzing. It’s a time to bring everything you’ve got to a game, but to remember that when all is said and done, everyone, including the members of the other team, are your fellow campers, colleagues, and friends. In other words, the 2013 Camp Starlight Olympics was an excellent exhibition, on behalf of the campers and Officers, of what Olympics is all about. The apache relay was neck and neck throughout and a single point determined the Sing winner. The Senior Rope Burn was one of the best Camp Starlight has seen in years. The teams played hard from the beginning to the end of the competition yet never forgot to have fun while demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship. In the end, if there is one word to describe these Olympics, it would be “intense.” Both teams came to every event hungry for a win and it showed in the scores, which were so close throughout the competition that victory came down to the final day of competition for girls and, quite literally, to the final tug-of-war for the boys. Closing ceremonies, Planet Blue Boys won, White Controllers Girls won, track meet-Olympic victory came down to the final tug of war for boys camp, Sing-one point gave Planet Blue the victory, the Apache-White Controllers claimed the win for the girls while it was a draw for the boys, Senior Rope Burn, hockey, soccer, gaga, swim meets, gymnastics meet, dance competition, lacrosse, trangle ball, newcombe, volleyball, boating, basketball, synchronized swimming, baseball, softball, cooking, eco-science, water polo, soccer shots, flag football, tennis, newcomb, Trivia Bowl-a boys camp tie decided by a gig, opening ceremonies, clown break. So here is an Olympic rewind everything that happened in reverse. I opted for sponges instead of balloons and they worked great. The Camp Starlight Olympics is over, but so much happens in just a few short days that it’s hard to keep up with it all in real time. We would have to pick up the balloon pieces afterwards. Water balloons often just bounce off people and explode on the ground anyway.Ĭ. ![]() Filling balloons with paint sounds like too much messy work.ī. Note: I didn't use water balloons because. ![]() The idea was to create a sort of paint slip'n'slide, but by the time we were done with Paint Twister, we weren't in the mood to slide around. We also laid out a tarp to catch the paint. Plus, cleaning the Twister mat was a huge pain.) Spraying each other with the pump guns was the most fun. That way, I only had one to wash after the fun was over And we didn't use a Twister mat this year. (***UPDATE*** AugThis time around, I asked guests to bring their own buckets. (Paint Twister!) Dump paint straight from the bottle onto the mat so it doesn't run everywhere. They are easy to refill and perfect for repeat paint fights in case you want to make it a tradition. Plastic or foam pump guns (the watered down paint won't ruin them). When the paint dried on our skin it was very uncomfortable and it took a long time to wash it off. We didn't think to do this until after our fight, but we will definitely do it next time. This will make it easier for clean up too. ![]() BUT! You can make the paint go a lot farther if you do 1 part paint to 3 or even 4 parts water. We only used about half a gallon of each color and mixed in equal parts water in large buckets. Plus, you won't have to just throw away that bottle of white. The colors won't be as bright, but you can stretch the paint out a bit. Here's a tip: Try mixing a little white paint into each bucket. We had way more than enough paint (about 6 gallons for 8 people)! If you plan to have a big crowd or if you want to make this an annual tradition, go with the big paint set or this one for an even larger group. Or you could buy this smaller paint set for a one time fight with a small group. I bought several gallons of it in a set to save money. You know, the stuff for kids to use in school. ![]()
